What is metadata?

Metadata (also called EXIF) is hidden data baked into every image by the camera or software that created it. It can reveal GPS coordinates, device model, timestamps, and software fingerprints, but it can also be edited or faked. Trust but verify.

What is metadata?

Lorem ipsum dolor sit amet, consectetur adipiscing elit. Metadata, often called EXIF (Exchangeable Image File Format), is data about data. Every digital image contains hidden information that was recorded when the photo was taken.

Sed do eiusmod tempor incididunt ut labore et dolore magna aliqua. This can include GPS coordinates, the device model, software used to edit the image, and precise timestamps.

Why does it matter?

Ut enim ad minim veniam, quis nostrud exercitation ullamco laboris nisi ut aliquip ex ea commodo consequat. For OSINT practitioners, metadata can reveal where and when a photo was taken, what device captured it, and sometimes even who created it.

Duis aute irure dolor in reprehenderit in voluptate velit esse cillum dolore eu fugiat nulla pariatur. However, metadata can also be edited, stripped, or faked, so always verify your findings through multiple sources.

Privacy considerations

Excepteur sint occaecat cupidatat non proident, sunt in culpa qui officia deserunt mollit anim id est laborum. Before sharing photos online, consider stripping metadata to protect your privacy. Many social media platforms automatically remove EXIF data, but not all do.

Lorem ipsum dolor sit amet, consectetur adipiscing elit. Use the "Strip Metadata" feature above to download a clean copy of any image with all metadata removed.
